Procurement Specialist (Woodstock, CT)

This position will be responsible for the purchasing and planning of assigned products and materials.

Duties include:

  • Identify, develop and evaluate new sources for supply.
  • Place and manage purchase orders with suppliers to support safety stock levels.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with vendors relating to the organization’s quality, delivery and price requirements.
  • Support the preparation of monthly forecasts to suppliers.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing information records electronically.
  • Communicate discrepancies and resolve disputes between vendors and the organization.
  • Assist in support of engineering programs from the development cycle through the start of production. Further maintain cost controls for new products.
  • Communicate project tracking status to key internal customers.
  • Review and manage inventory levels to achieve target levels.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction strategies.
  • Support capacity planning between vendors and buyers.
  • Manage and support timely disposition of non-conforming material with the Quality department.
  • Support the updating of all purchasing-related SOP’s.
Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business or related field. 3 to 5 years procurement experience (chemicals, plastics, glass, corrugated). An additional 8 years of relevant experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position requires previous experience in purchasing raw materials, negotiating pricing based on volume, and building relationships with vendors. Must have strong price analysis, negotiation, cost management and inventory management skills. Must have strong attention to detail, strong negotiation skills, effective communication skills, be organized, a team player and be able to adapt to change effectively and efficiently. General knowledge of industry practices, techniques and standards. ISM or APICS CPIM or CPM certifications preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proficient in the inventory and manufacturing screens of the AS/400 system and/or related purchasing management software systems.
